1. Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to the FixMyLaw website, legal practice management application, client portal, and related support communications (collectively, the “Service”). It does not govern third-party services that a firm connects to FixMyLaw under their own terms and privacy policies.
A law firm or legal professional using FixMyLaw generally controls the client and matter information entered into its workspace. FixMyLaw processes that information to provide the Service on the firm's instructions. Questions about a firm's use of your legal information should first be directed to that firm.
2. Information we collect
- Account information: name, email address, Google account identifier, verified-email status, firm membership, role, preferences, and authentication events.
- Firm and client records: contact details, intake information, matter records, tasks, deadlines, notes, documents, messages, time entries, invoices, and payment status submitted by authorized users.
- Service activity: audit records, feature usage, device and browser information, IP address, diagnostic logs, and security events.
- Communications: support requests, product feedback, notification preferences, and messages sent to us.
- Payment information: invoice and transaction status. Payment-card details are handled by the configured payment provider and are not intended to be stored by FixMyLaw.
3. Google sign-in
When you choose Google sign-in, Google provides the basic identity information needed to create or access your account, such as your name, email address, verified-email status, and Google account identifier. FixMyLaw does not receive your Google password.
We use Google identity information only for authentication, account security, support, and operating your FixMyLaw account. We do not sell it or use it for advertising. Connecting a separate Google service, such as Calendar or Drive, requires an additional, explicit authorization and is governed by the permissions shown at that time.
4. How we use information
- Provide, secure, maintain, and improve the Service.
- Authenticate users and enforce firm, role, and matter access.
- Store and synchronize records requested by authorized users.
- Deliver service notices, invitations, and requested support.
- Detect misuse, investigate incidents, and preserve audit history.
- Comply with applicable law and enforce our agreements.
- Communicate product or billing changes where permitted. You can opt out of promotional messages without losing service notices.
5. How information is shared
We may share information only as reasonably necessary with:
- Authorized members and portal users within the relevant firm workspace, according to configured permissions.
- Infrastructure, storage, email, authentication, payment, and support providers that process information for us under contractual restrictions.
- A successor in a merger, financing, reorganization, or sale, subject to appropriate confidentiality protections.
- Authorities or other parties when required by law, necessary to protect rights or safety, or needed to investigate abuse.
We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
6. Retention and deletion
We retain account and workspace information while the account is active and as needed to provide the Service. Firms may archive legal records to preserve professional and audit obligations. After an authorized deletion request, information is removed or anonymized within a reasonable period unless retention is required for security, dispute resolution, backup integrity, or applicable law.
7. Security
We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information, including access controls, encrypted transport, audit logging, tenant separation, and restricted production access. No online service can guarantee absolute security. Account holders should protect their Google account, use supported browsers, and promptly report suspected unauthorized access.
8. International processing
FixMyLaw and its service providers may process information in countries other than the one where you live. Where required, we use appropriate contractual or legal safeguards for international transfers.
9. Your choices and privacy rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or receive a portable copy of personal information, and to withdraw consent where processing relies on consent. Firm-managed legal records may need to be requested through the firm that controls the workspace.
You may also manage notification preferences in the Service and disconnect FixMyLaw from your Google Account permissions. We may verify your identity before completing a request.
10. Cookies and local storage
FixMyLaw uses essential cookies or browser storage for authentication, security, preferences, and application operation. The public website is not designed around advertising trackers. If optional analytics are introduced, this policy and any required consent controls will be updated.
11. Children
The Service is intended for legal professionals, their staff, law students working under appropriate supervision, and invited clients. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect children's information outside records submitted by an authorized legal-services provider for a legitimate matter.
12. Changes and contact
We may update this policy as the Service or applicable requirements change. Material changes will be identified by a revised date and, when appropriate, communicated in the Service.
Privacy questions and requests may be sent to [email protected]. For general support, visit the contact page.
